A Full Moon Elopement on Desert Dunes

The Location

Some couples choose to elope in a place they feel particularly connected with, and that’s exactly what Melissa & David did. White Sands National Park in New Mexico holds special meaning and memories for them, and it was the perfect place for these two to get married. 

The Experience

When Melissa & David first reached out, they mentioned the idea of eloping at White Sands on a full moon night. I absolutely loved this idea, and knew it would be a magical experience! I looked at when the full moon would be rising just after sunset, and we landed on a date in spring (which happens to be a great time to get married at White Sands). We planned out what locations would be most ideal for catching the golden light of sunset at their ceremony as well as where would be best to view the moon. And it all came together beautifully!

The Story

It ended up being pretty windy for their elopement day, but they made the best of it! Melissa’s dress with its high slit in the skirt was absolutely perfect for catching the wind and adding a dramatic flair to their photos.

At sunset, the two read personal vows as Melissa’s parents and friend watched with tears in their eyes. 

And after some exploring on the dunes and a quick picnic, it was time for the anticipated moment of moonrise. The wind died down and the park emptied, making the moment peaceful and intimate. It truly was such a magical way to end their elopement day!
