You all know that I’m a big fan of national parks and that I love exploring and photographing parks. I was SO excited to travel to Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado for Shea + Jacob’s engagement session, and I have to say that I was blown away by how amazing the dunes were! Shea is a fellow adventure wedding photographer (check out her work!), and it’s always such an honor to get to work with someone else who has a passion for the outdoors and photography.
We spent a perfect overcast afternoon hiking in the sand and taking in the magnificence of how expansive the dunes are. I will say, even though it might look easy to walk across the sand, it’s not! We certainly got a workout as we explored, but it was so fun! One thing I love about photographing adventure sessions is that we get to take our time and really enjoy and experience where we’re at. It’s more than just photography poses, it’s documenting a fun day of adventure! Shea and Jacob jumped off dunes, danced in the sand, and had so much fun!
If you ever get the chance to check out Great Sand Dunes National Park, do it! The size of the dunes and how far they reach is really incredible. I remember standing on top of the second tallest dune at the park and thinking how tiny we are in this world. When you visit, climb to the top of the Star Dune, the tallest sand dune in North America at 750 feet. It’s not easy, but the views are so worth it! The park also has beautiful trails through forest, and a great view of the surrounding mountains. There’s even a waterfall hike nearby!
I can’t recommend Great Sand Dunes enough for a memorable engagement session, elopement, adventure wedding, or anniversary session! If you want more information or are interested in booking a photographer for Great Sand Dunes National Park, get in touch! I would just LOVE to work there again!

WOW! I live just 30 minutes from some sand dunes in Idaho… but these make me think I need to get my butt to Colorado. My baby dunes are nothing compared to the Great Sand Dunes and shoot an elopement or adventure session there!
