If you already have a specific date or season in mind, that can really help you narrow down elopement locations. Some locations are more or less ideal at certain times of year based on the local temperatures, weather, road closures, and how busy the area gets. It’s really important to read up on a place you’re considering for your elopement to make sure that it’s a good fit for the time of year you want to get married. A great elopement photographer and planner will be able to give you all this information and advise you on the best places to elope!
Since it’s a transitional season, spring can sometimes be a little tricky for finding the perfect place to elope. But don’t worry, you still have lots of great options! While many places are still covered in snow or waiting to get back to the lush green of summer, there are many locations that are incredibly beautiful for your elopement. In certain parts of the world, this is also when wildflowers cover meadows and spring blooms make their debut. And in temperate, tropical places, the weather continues to be perfect. As you consider where to elope in spring, take a look how much rainfall a location sees and be mindful of what the scenery looks like as it transitions into summer.
Death Valley National Park is truly one of the best underrated national parks to elope at, and spring is a great time to be there! Since it’s far too hot in the summer to spend time in this mountainous desert, late winter and spring are some of the best seasons to elope. Late March and early April are usually peak times for the amazing wildflower display that comes after spring rains. The desert landscape and surrounding mountains are beautiful this time of year, and even during peak visitor season, the park is relatively quiet. Just be aware that high winds and sandstorms are not unusual during the spring months.

If you’re on the hunt for beautiful wildflowers with hills or mountains in the background, go to northern or central Italy in the spring! Spread across the regions, you’ll find bright red poppies dancing in the breeze and vast fields of yellow canola flowers framed by rolling hills and rugged mountains. While you’re there, enjoy the quaint villages, plentiful hiking trails, and amazing local food.

April through early June is a great time to elope anywhere in Hawai’i! The winter crowds and rainy season have finished, but the summer rush hasn’t started yet. Along with less tourists, you’ll usually see lower prices as you go to book your travel. If you’re lucky, you might also get to see a whale in early April at the tail (no pun intended) end of their time in Hawai’i. This is one of the best places to elope because of the diversity in scenery and the endless possibilities for fun activities on the islands. You can expect daily high temperatures to be in the low 80s fahrenheit (27°C), as it is most of the year.

I’m here to help you craft your elopement day from scratch. Whether or not you have a date or location picked out already, we can go ahead and start working together! I’ll advise you on the best time to elope at a location, or what locations are best for your date.
Summer is a great time to enjoy the sunshine, experience fun outdoor activities, and travel for your elopement. It’s also the perfect opportunity to have a mountain elopement in locations that are covered in snow during winter and spring. In many mountain places, summer is when wildflowers pop up and the scenery is greenest. Summer brings the opportunity for lots of fun activities that would be a great addition to your special elopement day experience like water sports, stargazing, and camping!
When you’re considering where to elope in summer, you may want to avoid the heat of desert locations or hot coastal areas. It can also be the high season for bugs in many places, so take that into consideration as well. Also be aware of animals that are active in the warm months and be prepared if you’re hiking in an area with bears, mountain lions, etc.
Fall is one of the most enchanting and beautiful times to elope, and there are some stunning places to get married! Fall brings really great weather to just about any location, but the real magic happens when trees change the color of their leaves. Aspen and cottonwood turn a gorgeous gold; maples show off vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds; oak varieties showcase a whole range of vivid colors, including purple; and for a real treat, the coniferous larch trees turn bright yellow. Wherever you decide to elope in the world, you’re sure to find an amazing display of hues in deciduous trees and shrubs.
If you’re wanting to catch the colors at their peak for your elopement day, look at the predicted timing for the location you’re considering. I love using this fall color prediction map for U.S. places, but a quick Google search can find something similar for just about anywhere.
Winter really is a great time to elope, and you have more location choices than you might think! If you want to elope in the winter months, you basically have two main options: go all in on the winter theme and choose a place that’s snowy and cold, or opt for a location in a warmer climate. Wintery elopements can be really magical and a lot of fun - you’ll just need to be extra prepared for the cold temperatures and possibly take care of a few extra logistics (like seasonal road closures, driving in the snow, etc.). But if you have your eye on some place warm, this can be a great time to soak in the sun and enjoy your winter elopement without freezing. Desert locations are especially great this time of year because they’re too hot to elope in during the summer.
If you don’t have a kind of scenery or date in mind for your elopement, how do you choose where to elope? Maybe, instead, you have a vision of the type of elopement experience you’d like to have. It could be an elopement day that’s packed with super fun activities, a really romantic wedding, or something that’s very very unique. Or maybe you’re just looking for the easiest place to elope, which can really make a difference when you want to get married internationally. Whatever your wish list, I’ve put together some of the best places to elope by type that I hope will be just what you’re looking for!
Before writing this, I asked a number of people who had eloped or were going to elope what they consider a romantic place. I was really curious to hear their thoughts, because I feel like most articles you find online for “Top 5 Most Romantic Places” include crowded beaches, busy overlooks, and popular sunset spots. While those places are incredibly beautiful, I’m not sure they quite deserve the “most romantic” award. So what makes a place romantic? It really has to do with the ambiance and the feeling you have when you’re there. Pretty much everyone agreed, the place needs an amazing view and some privacy for you and your partner. Other popular responses were a great sunset vista, a quiet or peaceful atmosphere, and a really chill vibe where it feels like the world is moving slow and you can truly be present in the moment.
Another fun thing that made the “most romantic” list was having twinkle lights, string lights, or the lights of a city as part of the ambiance at sunset or twilight. This totally adds to the romance of a place, and the great thing is that you can add this to many locations! One of my favorite things to do when I’m helping couples plan their elopements is to dream up unique ideas like this to make their day unforgettable. You could stargaze, cuddled up together by the warmth of a campfire on the beach; Or enjoy a super romantic dinner under a canopy of lights hung in the forest; Or even watch the sunset from a quiet overlook and then stay after dark to see the city lights come out below you. There’s so much you can do to make the moment feel extra romantic!
I love all of these characteristics for what brings a feeling of romance to a location, and I’ve used them as a guide for choosing my list of most romantic places to elope. I hope these locations inspire and excite you, and I’d love to help you dream up a super romantic elopement experience!
There’s just something about the high cliffs above the bright blue sea of the Amalfi and Sorrento coasts that feels so romantic. The gorgeous views are extra amazing at sunset as the mountains show off their layers in the golden haze. And as the sun dips, the lights of the coastal cities and towns like Positano and Nerano twinkle in the twilight to add an extra special romance. Outside of the picturesque coastal towns, you’ll find amazing vistas along countryside trails and quiet forests with hidden beauty. If the sea is more of your thing, there’s plenty of gorgeous blue water to explore by boat or swimming, or just enjoy the view as you sunbathe on the shores. And then you can end your day with dinner by candlelight at an amazing restaurant or your own private villa.

For some, a gloomy day feels cozy, intimate, and romantic, and the Oregon Coast is a fantastic place to experience this. Plus, the beautiful sound of the waves crashing against rocks, the gorgeous rocky coastline, and the endless ocean view add to the amazing atmosphere. Imagine saying heartfelt vows to your partner atop a rocky cliff, overlooking the ocean. Then moving to the sounds of your favorite song as you dance on an empty beach. And ending your day with a cozy picnic by a fire, watching the sun set behind billowy clouds. Sounds like a dream come true? The Oregon Coast is an amazing place to elope, and has so much beauty to offer!

The little village of West Lulworth is a great place to elope if you’re looking to relax and have some adventure. It’s the kind of place where you can walk down cobblestone streets and enjoy idyllic countryside and thatched roof cottages. But there’s a lot more to this little coastal town! Here you’ll also have the opportunity to fossil hunt, hike miles and miles of the giant chalk cliff hills, cliff jump, snorkel, kayak, and more. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy coves and beaches, including the home to the famous Durdle Door natural arch. Late spring is the perfect time to visit and elope to beat the local British tourists but still have amazing warm weather. Check out more about what to do in West Lulworth for your elopement!
